When you are in a place where you are thinking about moving forward and if you want to get the job that you want, you already know that there is so much in the presentation. There are many people out there who know that they would do an amazing job if they were only given the chance, but what do they have to do to be given that chance? There are so many things that are important when you are thinking about getting the job that you want, but one of the first things that you need to learn is the fine art of the follow up. Following up on your prospective job is the best way to get it, so take a moment to make sure that you know what kind of follow up you need to work with.

The first thing that you need to consider is the time frame. How long are you going to need to wait to follow up and how much space should you give them? Once you have applied for a job, most experts agree that you should call the place of employment back in a week. A single week will give them a lot of time to review your resume and to make sure that they know what you have to offer. Remember that if you call the next day, there is a chance that no one would have seen your resume! A week, or two, at the most will give them a chance to know you. If they have seen your resume, they will be in a much better place to give you the answer that you want.

If necessary, rehearse what you want to say when you are thinking about following up on a job. If you are someone who sputters and gets nervous on the phone, you may want to act out the scenario with a friend. This will give you an opportunity to get over the jitters and it will prevent you from stuttering or from telling them something that is actually wrong! Getting someone to run you through a few different versions of how they might answer the phone is a good idea. If you are feeling really paranoid about it, you might want to have a written up statement when you are thinking about leaving a phone message. The key is not to be surprised whether you get a machine or a person.

If you are feeling a little more nervous about the position and you feel that you don’t want to bother anyways, the least intrusive sort of inquiry that you can make is going to be through email. Through email, you are going to be able to make a polite inquiry directly to the person who is taking care of your work, and then you will find that you can also send them another copy of your resume without seeming pushy.

Getting the right follow up can get you the job that you need, so take a moment to think about how you want to handle it!
